Four people have been arrested for the brutal murder of a transgender in Mumbai, Vishal Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-11, informed on Friday. The transgender was stabbed to death with a sharp-edged weapon in the Goregaon west area on Thursday and a case has been registered at the Bangur Nagar Police Station. "A transgender person was brutally murdered on February 24 on the side of the road. Police personnel immediately reached the scene and took the body to the hospital. BMC seals 1305 buildings after Mumbai logs 2749 new Covid-19 cases

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday sealed a total of 1305 buildings after 2749 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Mumbai. "A total of 1305 buildings sealed in Mumbai after 2749 COVID-19 cases reported. 71,838 households residing in these sealed buildings," BMC said. According to the health department, Maharashtra reported 6,112 new COVID-19 cases, 2,159 discharges, and 44 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total cases in the state stand at 20,87,632, including 19,89,963 recoveries, 44,765 active cases 51,713 deaths. As Mumbai is witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases in the past few days the state government has deployed marshals to enforce mask-wearing and social distancing at public and religious places, said Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Friday.

Mumbai Police rescues minor girl from trafficking, 3 arrested

The Social Service Branch of Mumbai Police on Thursday arrested three people after they were allegedly planning to sell a minor girl for money. In a statement, the Mumbai Police said, "The Social Service Branch of Mumbai Police arrested three people yesterday in a raid and rescued a 14-year-old girl. Preliminary investigation revealed that the perpetrators had fixed for the girl to be sold at Rs 3 lakhs." According to the information received from the police, the accused are allegedly casting directors namely Ashish Patel, Mohammad Sheikh and Vinod Aneria. The girl was offered a role in a TV serial after which she had accepted, said police. "Offenders are now booked under Sections 370, 366(A) and 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC)," the statement added.

Mumbai: Authorities in Mumbai have conducted 212,000 Covid-19 tests, with a positivity percentage of 20.40%. The current figure of 20.40% marks a sharp rise from the 11.6% recorded on May 13, and 16.5% on May 21. On May 6, roughly a month ago, the positivity percentage stood at 10%, according to data available with Hindustan Times. The positivity percentage is calculated as the number of people testing positive from among the total number of tests.
