Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has made it to the final of the javelin throw event of the World Athletics Championships for the first time. In the first attempt of the group round of this championship going on in America, he secured the ticket for the final by throwing 88.39 meters of javelin. This was the third best performance of 24-year-old Neeraj. The final round will start at 7.05 am on Sunday morning Indian time.

In the men’s javelin throw event of the World Championships, players were placed in two groups. The best-12 players from both these groups were to get a place in the final. The scale of 83.50 meters was fixed for automatic qualification.

Neeraj crossed this mark in his very first attempt and entered the final. He was placed in Group A.

 

Earlier, Neeraj had played in the 2017 World Championship in London. Here in the group round, he was able to cover a distance of 82.26 meters with the spear. In such a situation, he could not take entry in the final. After this, he could not take part in the championship held in Doha in the year 2019 due to elbow surgery.
