Latest report suggests that social media platform Snapchat grew by 120% year-over-year in March 2020 in terms of daily active users or DAUs. As reported by PTI, the Snap Inc Managing Director (International Markets) Nana Murugesan also confirmed that the firm has been expanding its team in India which focuses on developing culturally relevant products, community engagement and partnerships.
It has also been mentioned that Snap Inc. had around 229 million daily active users at the end of March 2020 quarter, which is said to be an increase of 39 million or 20% year-over-year. However, the firm has not revealed the country-wise breakdown of the DAUs.
But it looks like the firm has a special focus on India.
“We have seen significant user growth in India with a 120%increase of our daily active users, comparing March last year to March this year. We have added new functions to the India team in our Mumbai office, with our first employees hired in the strategy and partnership team, sales and creative strategy team, as well as currently recruiting for our content team,” Murugesan said.
Worth adding is that in the past six months Snap Inc. has introduced support for five languages tools to celebrate cultural moments and festivals, onboarded Indian celebrities like Taapsee Pannu, brought new Official Lens Creators and more.
However, AR still remains as a core element for the company. “We’re especially excited to be hosting our first Lensathon in partnership with Skillenza to reach over five lakh developers developers in India. We see this as a big step forward in democratising creativity, building the future of AR alongside our community and making available even more compelling, relevant experiences for Snapchatters,” said Murugesan.
