Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round show paved the way for MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to end Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) unbeaten run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Sunday. Jadeja’s batting onslaught followed by his bowling heroics helped CSK outclass Virat Kohli’s RCB in match 19 of the cash-rich league at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Both RCB and CSK made two changes for the high-voltage in their respective playing XIs. While CSK added Dwayne Bravo and Imran Tahir to their starting lineup, Kohli announced that RCB have opted to give starts to Dan Christian and Navdeep Saini. CSK skipper Dhoni won the toss and the Yellow Brigade made an impressive start courtesy of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis’ batting heroics.
Continuing his sublime run with the willow, Du Plessis scored a crucial 33 off 25 balls while Du Plessis’ 41-ball 50 powered CSK to cross the 100-run mark inside the first 13 overs. Du Plessis’ gritty knock was overshadowed by Jadeja’s masterclass as the veteran all-rounder smashed a match-winning 62 off just 28 balls.
The CSK superstar also scripted history by destroying Harshal Patel in the final over of CSK’s innings. Jadeja equalled Chris Gayle’s record by smashing 37 runs in Patel’s final over. Riding on Jadeja’s record-equalling knock, Dhoni-led CSK managed to set a challenging 191-4 in 20 overs.
Jadeja then delivered the goods with the ball and cleaned up Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers by turning the mouthwatering clash into a one-sided affair at the Wankhede. Jadeja cleaned up legendary de Villiers with a peach of a delivery and the CSK star also came up with the run-out of Daniel Christian. In response to CSK’s 191, Kohli and Co. only managed to score 122-9 to record their first defeat of the IPL 2021.
