Google Maps gets a new community feed in Explore

Google has been updating Maps with new features and improvements as people adjust to the new normal. Google is now adding a new community feed in the Explore tab of Maps.

The community feed has all the latest reviews, photos and posts added to Google Maps by local experts, and also people you follow. It will also feature content from food and drink merchants, and articles from publishers like The Infatuation. Google Maps will also show updates of restaurants you follow in your feed, and recommend activities in your area.

Google said it will also show recommendations for places based on the food and drink preferences you’ve earmarked on Maps. You can also pan and zoom the map to get more details about locations you want to explore.

“Every day, people submit more than 20 million contributions—including recommendations for their favorite spots, updates to business services, fresh reviews and ratings, photos, answers to other people’s questions, updated addresses and more,” Google said in a blog post.

The community feed will feature a mix of content from users, merchants and publishers. Google also plans to show more posts from merchants in the community feed as they’re seen two times more than before the feed existed. This will make it easier for users to find out if restaurants are open, if they have outdoor seating and more.

The community feed in Google Maps is rolling out globally to all users on Android and iOS. You can pull up the tab in the Explore feed to check out the new community feed.
