Two men were killed, 16 workers injured and many others feared trapped after a boiler exploded on Wednesday at the at NLC India Ltd’s thermal plant in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district, reports said.

According to news agency PTI, the accident was reported from the fifth unit of the thermal power station-II when workers were in the process of resuming operations in the morning.

“Two men died on the spot. Some workers are feared trapped and 16 others have sustained injuries,” an official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The official said that the injured have been rushed to a hospital in the state capital of Chennai.

In May, eight workers were injured in a boiler explosion at the state-run NLC plant.
